GUELPH- The Ontario government is providing over $150,000 in funding to upgrade the skills of current and future workers in Guelph through the Canada Ontario Job Grant.

Today Mike Harris, MPP for Kitchener-Conestoga and Amy Fee, MPP for Kitchener South-Hespeler announced that Hammond Power Solutions in Guelph is receiving financial support from the Canada Ontario Job Grant to provide leadership training to their employees.

“This $150,000 investment will help Hammond Power Solutions develop their workforce into their future leaders. This is great news for their employees in Guelph who will have an opportunity to upgrade their skills as they move forward in their careers”, said MPPs Harris and Fee.

“Ontario's workers are our most valuable asset,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. “Our government is committed to ensuring employees have the skills they need not just to meet the jobs of today, but to thrive tomorrow as well. When we invest in training workers to lead, everyone in our community prospers."

The Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development is contributing $153,626 to help Hammond Power Solutions deliver the Effective Leader Program to 26 employees. This leadership training is being done to prepare staff for future leadership roles in the company. Training is being delivered by High Performance Leaders.

“At HPS our priority is our people. With the “greying” of our workforce as well as a talent drain in the electrical industry due to retirements, the opportunity to build capability within our business to prepare for this transition is of significant importance. This required a large investment in the development of our future leaders to secure our ongoing sustainability as a business and as a community partner. Partnership with the Ontario Skills Job Grant has been an important contributor in making that happen for us”, said Catherine McKeown, Chief People Officer at Hammond Power Solutions.

The Canada Ontario Job Grant provides direct financial support to employers who wish to invest in training for their workforce. Employers can choose training that meets their workforce needs and identify who they would like to have trained. Training costs are shared between employers and government.
